RELIGION: Chapter 3 GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH THE CHURCH

VOCABULARY: bishop, Church, deacon, preside, authority, Messiah, pope,

 

MASS: Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 24, 2014 for the 4th and 5th graders. 4th graders are the readers and cantors:

            CANTORS: ANNE BLAKE AND NORAH SMITHA

            FIRST READING: EMILY GARCIA

            RESPONSORIAL PSALM: MORGAN LANGFELDT

            PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL: KILEY PITTS

 

READING: The story for the week is called “JUSTIN AND THE BEST BISCUITS IN THE WORLD”.  It is an AR story. We will not be reading the story from the hardback book since I have the  chapter book of the hardback selection. It is a long chapter book, so I will also be reading it during oral reading time.

 

Vocabulary- festival, guilt, inspecting, lingered, pranced, resounded

 

Leveled readers are: Green—no story due to the chapter book(THURSDAY)

                                         Red-no story due to the chapter book(FRIDAY)

                                         Blue-no story due to  the chapter book(WEDNESDAY)

 

ORAL READING: JUSTIN AND THE BEST BISCUITS IN THE WORLD

 

Spelling pretest will be on MONDAY over the following words:

The final test will be on FRIDAY!!

 

Look over theSpellingcity website. The students are able to play all the games that are available.

 

SPELLING WORDS are: biscuit, clover, public, oven, bandage, cabin, plastic, radar, mitten, knapsack, local, mustard, pupil, sofá, welcome, razor, fancy, limit, famous, item

 

CHALLENGE WORDS are: festival, guilt, inspecting, lingered, resounded

 

The spelling list words are handed out on Friday and are stapled in the assignment notebook. If your child spells all 25 words correctly on Monday for the prestest then the student will not take the final test on Friday. Instead he/she will play an educational game on the I-pad during the final spelling test. At  the end of the quarter all the students who scored 100% on their spelling pretests will get  to pick from the candy jar.

HANDWRITING:

            Lowercase letters:  a,d g,o, c q, n, m

 

MATH:

*Chapter 2 test will be on Wednesday

*Chapter 4 Multiplication and Divsion Basic Facts

            *Relating Multiplication and Division

            *Multiplication and Division Facts to Five

           

           

SOCIAL STUDIES:

            *Map of Indiana’s neighboring counties and county seats.

            *Keynote Project over Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie,

              Lake Ontario, Wabash River, Ohio River, St. Joe River

 

SCIENCE

What Matter Is Made Of

            Vocabulary: element, atom, mixture, solution, filter, evaporation, compound

 

Physical Changes of Matter

            Vocabulary-solid, liquid, gas

 

           

 

OTHER NOTES:

 

*All students may bring home any work (not quizzes or tests) that  is completed in the classroom for parents to check over. Parents, please talk this over with your child as to what you want you child to bring home and have you check over before I grade the papers.

 

**The IXL math computer website is going quite well.  Expect your child to have 1 review assginment everyday on this website.  The assignment is due the following morning, so the students have the entire day(free time) to work on this.

 

***Students write in their assignment notebook on a daily basis for any assignments that need to be completed.  Keep in mind that I do not check over what the students write in their notebook.  Let me know if you would like for me to take a peek at what they are writing in their notebook if this would help you at home get work finished on time.

 

****NO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 201!!! ENJOY YOUR DAY OFF!!

 

*****I will be sending home a paper copy of my newsletter and I will have it updated on the website.  I  will also keep updated the assignments we worked on in the classroom and are due by the next school morning.
