First Grade News

Nov.21, 2014

We had two wonderful weeks. The children have been working very hard. Sorry there was not a news letter last week, I could not get on to the internet. Next week is just the two days and then we have time to spend with our families. Thank you to all the parents who helped with our Thanksgiving feast. The children really enjoyed it. I heard many complements about the food. When we return from Thanksgiving break we only have three weeks until Christmas break. The days are flying by. I will include spelling words for the week of Dec. 1st. Have a great weekend.

Religion: God promised to send a savior to His people. We must always be prepared. God always loves us and forgives us.

Language Arts: We have added verbs and present tense verbs to our knowledge of parts of speech. We also have been working on beginning, middle, end of stories and retelling them; working in small groups for cooperative work. we also worked with possessives and some contrations. Most children have made their AR goal. There are three weeks to keep reading and I know that we will all make it. I am pushing for 100%! Please keep reading at home.

Math: Spatial awareness and postion word are the focus this week. We have also worked with pattern blocks and created our own patterns.

Social Studies: Mr. Chaney talked about neighbors and neighborhoods. We have been looking at maps and the globe learning about our communities, country, and continent.
