3rd Grade Newsletter

February 19-23, 2018

We are starting a new reading unit this week. We start off with Clever Jack Takes the Cake.  Students learn about the bartering process and how much fun Jack has doing the trading.

Spelling words:  (compound words)  airplane, daytime, birthday, daylight, hairdo, somebody, birdhouse, barefoot, headlight, sometime, someone, newspaper, sidewalks, basketball, stagecoach, placed, office, giant, handwriting, windshield. The students need to work on their cursive. They do them during the day in centers and it would be helpful if they also did some practice at night for homework.

Vocabulary words:  admit, barter, considered, creation, humble, magnificent, payment, reluctantly.

In Grammar we will be studying pronouns.

We will finish up Chapter 11 in math with a test on Tuesday.  Chapter 12 will have us looking at data and putting together bar graphs, line graphs, and picture graphs.

In Science we are studying the solar system and the phases of the moon.

In Religion we will be talking about Lent and how they can become closer to God during this time.  Stations of the Cross of Friday at 2:15.

Their Animal Report is due Tuesday.  Please be sure it is all handwritten in cursive and they have also drawn a picture of their animal.  With this report now finished they will be working on a PowerPoint presentation in computer class. If you would like a copy of this, please send in a thumb drive (in an envelope with their name) for us to copy it onto.
