Curriculum

Religion
|
The
overall theme is the world is God's gift to us, our family and friends
are God's gift to us and God loves us. The students learn how to properly
make the Sign of the Cross and learn the Our Father, Hail Mary, and
Angel of God. We strive to encourage and strengthen each child's love
for God, for others, and for learning. |
|
Language Arts
|
The Language Arts program is
a literature based program and strong emphasis is placed on phonics
through the program, "Intensified Phonics". Students learn
all the letters and sounds of the alphabet including short vowel
sounds. Students are read to on a daily basis.
Creative writing begins with
students making and writing in weekly journals. Students progressively
practive printing words and joining words together to form sentences
as appropriate.

Math
|
The
Math program is "Saxon Math". This program enables all children
to develop a solid foundation in the language and basic concepts of
all areas of mathematics. Children learn through hands-on experience,
discussion, and exploration. Skills introduced in the lessons are
reinforced in Math Centers where children work independently. |

Handwriting
|
The "D'Nealian"
style of printing is used throughout the school. Students are taught
how to correctly print all upper and lower case letters of the alphabet
and the numbers from 0 to 10. |
|
Science
|
Students learn aout
our bodies, our senses, living things, forces, and things in the sky
through the use of Big Books and Science Kits. |
|
Art
|
Students
enjoy painting, cutting, pasting, coloring, in various activities
throughout the day. |
|
Specials
|
|
Music
|
Students
enjoy 30 minutes of class with the music teacher each week. They
learn songs and movement. |
|
Physical Education
|
Students
have 20 minutes of class with the gym teacher each week. The curriculum
develops the students large motor skills, such as jumping, throwing,
catching, and running. |
|
Computer
|
Students
attend 30 minutes of class with the computer teacher each week.
They lean basic use of computers such as turining off and on and
loading software. Students use software to reinforce the curriculum
taught in the classroom. They are also introduced to a multimedia
program. |
|
Additional
Activities
|
|
Recess
|
The
students have 15 minutes of recess daily. |
|
Snacks
|
There
is a snack time during each school day. Each child is assigned weeks
for providing snacks for the class. |
|
Birthdays
|
Each
child may bring a treat to share with the class on their birthday.
If the student has a summer birthday, then a day meay be chosen
for a "pretend" birthday. |
|
Parties
|
There
are four main parties during the school, Halloween, Christmas, 100
Day, and St. Valentine's Day. Notes are sent home asking for help
with treats or games. |
