ART CLASS NEWS

Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a nice Christmas break. Coming up in the next few weeks we will be painting, sculpting, and paper macheing! Please be sure that your child has an art shirt...we will be getting messy!

1st Grade:

First grade students are learning about the art elements: Shape, Line, and Color. We are learning about nocturnal animals starting with the screech owl. Students have done a wonderful job drawing and coloring the owl.

2nd Grade:

Second grade students are learning about ancient Egyptian art and art history. We created a portrait in ancient Egyptian art style and have written work in hyroglyphics. Come in and see the second graders work hanging on the wall outside the second grade classroom.

3rd Grade:

Third grade students have ventured into Medival times! Students are learning about castles and a coat of arms. We have created castles using the art elements shape, line, color, and texture. We have also applied the principles of balance and space. The castles are on display outside the 3rd grade classrooms.

4th Grade:

Fourth grade students are creating Native American Totem poles. We are learning about a totem symbolizes to the Native American people. Students will understand what each animal symbol and color stands for on a totem. Each student is creating 3D totem representing his/her family. Students will be working as a team to create a large 2D totem that represents their 4th grade class. Their totems will be on display in January.

5th Grade:

Fifth grade students are have been working diligently on their 3D portraits of famous people in history. Students have had to think-out-of-the-box to create hair-dos, clothing, and features to enhance their portraits. In computer class students are writing 5 interesting facts about the person they chose to sculpt. The sculptures will be on display in the gym during the Christmas program December 17. A special THANKS goes to Mr. Frantz for helping students during art class!

JR HIGH:

6th GRADE: Great skill was used to produce the beautiful pinwheels displayed by the 6th grade classroom. Students used radial balance and bright colors when creating each pinwheel.

7th GRADE: Check out the fall colors, blends, and painting techniques used to create the 7th grade leaves. After studying the color wheel and getting an understanding on color themes, students were able to create these stunning leaf designs using blending and paint splatter techniques demonstrated in class.

8th GRADE: Individual styles are shining through in the artwork produced by the 8th grade art students. Students were allowed to choose the subject matter and media to showcase their individual art styles. 8th grade student will be comparing and contrasting their style with that of a famous artist. Look for their findings in January.
